This Summer, La'Nyah Biggs, a rising sophomore majoring in Business Management at Southern University and A&M College, applied for a scholarship and summer internship through the Black Building Envelope Professionals (BBEP).  Not only did BBEP award La’Nyah a scholarship, but they also identified a summer internship opportunity with Seven Source, a Southern California manufacturer representative agency specializing in Building Envelope Technology.

During her summer internship, La’Nyah had the opportunity to help plan the Siplast Rise Summit: SoCal Edition; where she learned about Parasolo PVC and TPX Single Ply Membranes. She also participated in an American Hydrotech, Inc. Hydroseal PMMA demonstration and learned about MM6125 Hot Rubberized Asphalt Systems. Her experience included several job site visits to discuss SITURA Inc. expansion joints and plans for waterproofing; a visit to the Lucas Museum project, one of Los Angeles’ largest green roofs; and spent a day at the Freedom Chemical Corporation facilities, where she experienced the activities of a functioning laboratory. La’Nyah also has a strong interest in the technology and creativity provided by PIKUS3D Printed Concrete.  “I’m thrilled to have been selected to intern with Seven Source, where the experience was both amazing and educational,” said Biggs.

La’Nyah looks forward to having the opportunity to install all of these products and learn about distribution and other facets of construction in the future.  After graduation, La’Nyah aspires to become a Chief Executive Officer of her own business.

BBEP is an organization focused on providing community, networking, job opportunities and career development within the building envelope industry for Blacks and other underutilized groups.  BBEP also has a dedicated pipeline to introduce the exciting world of the construction industry to students, like La’Nyah, that attend HBCUs and Minority Institutions.
